The American Board of Genetic Counseling

"The American Board of Genetic Counseling prepares and administers examinations to certify individuals who provide services in the medical genetics specialty of genetic counseling and accredits training programs in the field of genetic counseling. The certifying examination was offered by the ABGC for the first time in 1993. Prior to the establishment of the ABGC certification, this specialty was offered by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG)." - American Board of Genetic Counseling

If a genetic counseling training program is "fully accredited", this "accredidation decision indicates that the program meets the minimum standards established by the American Board of Genetic counseling to provide a well-rounded and adequate educational and clinical program for students."- American Board of Genetic Counseling
